Hopefully it's fun to spend time browsing around Birdzoom.com, but the point is to make it easier for you to see the birds you'd like to see. So, if you'd rather have the information delivered to you, you can click the "subscribe" button that appears at the top of your search results. This'll link you to an RSS feed of sightings that match the criteria you selected in your search.
You can subscribe to this feed using your favorite RSS reader, and whenever another Birdzoom user enters a sighting that matches your criteria, it'll be delivered right to you!
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is way to have information delivered to your desktop, or added to your blog or Web site.
There are a number of ways to access RSS feeds. You can install a news reader that will display RSS feeds from the web sites you select. After installing the news reader, you can add RSS feeds manually from a web site by clicking on a "Subscribe" link or RSS feed icon:
Copy the URL, or address, of the RSS feed. In your RSS reader, select the option that adds a new feed or channel, then paste in the URL and click OK.
An alternative to downloading a dedicated news reader is to use a Web-based news reader. For example, My Yahoo!, iGoogle or My AOL users can add RSS feeds directly to your personal homepage.
Browsers such as Internet Explorer 7, Safari and Firefox also have built-in RSS readers. If you use one of these browsers, you can subscribe to a feed just by clicking the link and following the on-screen instructions.
I'm not understanding how to subscribe to the instant notification service. Can you help?

Hi Beth!
We've added a "New to RSS?" section to the post above. Hopefully this answers your questions about subscribing to Birdzoom RSS feeds.
We plan to implement an even more robust notification system in the near future that will allow you to choose different ways of being notified of new Birdzoom sightings -- for example, by email, RSS, or even by text message to your mobile phone!
Thanks for the help! That will be fun to get updates.
